Known as the Gateway to the Jurassic Coast, Hawkchurch is steeped in British history and tradition, a wonderful place to explore this August Bank Holiday…

Set in the magical Axe Valley, Hawkchurch Resort & Spa has breathtaking surroundings in a historical setting, with the local Parish being able to date its origin back to the doomsday book! Known for its art and culture, Axminister, Lyme Regis and the surrounding areas have some lovely events on over the August Bank Holiday this year…

inspire! art & crafts fair

When: 27th – 29th August

Inspire! is taking place at the Town Mill in Lyme Regis, the Arts & Crafts Fair brings together the thriving community of resident artisans, joined with local artists and craftspeople. They will showcase their amazing work, along with constructing demonstrations of their mediums and skills in workshops, so you can go away and try your hand at a few new tricks too! The Courtyard Café and the Brewery Tap will be serving mouth watering wholesome cooking and real ales and cider to tickle those taste buds, with the atmosphere being set by the talented acoustic duo Cosmic Café, who will be performing over the weekend.

marine theatre: pirate shakespeare

When: 24th August

If you have some little ones around, or like me and love a good comedy theatre show, then the Marine Theatre at Lyme Regis is the place for you! Showing a special retelling of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night for the children, the theatre company will be using pirates and interactive fun! Pirate Captain and his first (and only) mate await your company on deck for an evening of fun, this salty tale has it all, mystery, romance and adventure, with strictly no parrots! So hoist the main sails, climb the rigging and get jiggling along with this reimagined classic tale, including live music and lashings of audience participation!

marine theatre: thank you for the music show

When: 28th August

If you’re an ABBA fan then the Marine Theatre is you venue to strut your stuff this August Bank Holiday in Lyme Regis, celebrating 40 years of ABBA’s hit Dancing Queen in sequin-spangled style! Fancy dress is fully encouraged (and mostly expected) while rocking out to the retro sounds of the 70’s, watching professionals performed wonderfully choreographed dances and singing that are just like the real thing! You will have the time of your life at this 70’s party extravaganza.

Lyme Regis is a beautiful and historical place, surrounded by the breath taking Jurassic Coastline, known for it’s fossils, but you will have a fabulous time at these, and many other events around the local area this August Bank Holiday!

Happy Adventuring!
