If so, then this blog will be perfect for you. Rivendale is known for being a peaceful escape where you can enjoy the outdoors with luxury accommodation in the Peak District countryside. Whilst you’re on holiday in the Peak District you will want to go on a walk or two which is why we’ve put together this blog full of various walks that are located around Rivendale and the surrounding areas. Have a read and see which ones take your fancy ready for your staycation.

1-5km walks

Mam Tor Circular Walk

start: Mam Nick Car Park  – 36 minute drive from resort

distance: 4.8km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The car parks around Mam Tor usually fill up by 9am during the peak seasons so if you are heading here during the spring and summer months make sure you get here early. Although this walk isn’t too long there are some steps and steep climbs throughout which can make it challenging in some parts. The views are incredible and totally worth it though, it would be a great place to enjoy a walk and watch the sunrise too.

Dovedale Stepping Stones Circular Walk

start: Narlow Lane Car Park9 minute drive from resort

distance: 5.5km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

This walk is moderate from start to finish and takes you across various terrains and only two uphill stints. The main attraction included in this circular walk is of course the Dovedale Stepping Stones which as the name suggests are stepping stones that go across the River Dove and are a popular tourist attraction. If you consider doing this walk, be aware that the stepping stones might be busy especially in peak season.

Hartington Short Circular

start: Parsons Field Car Park – 10 minute drive from resort

distance: 5km

duration: 1-1.5hrs

A slightly shorter and family-friendly route that will be perfect for all ages. The Hartington Short Circular walk takes you through farmland and along the River Dove with plenty of amazing and picturesque views throughout. The walk consists of both rural and urban village pathways, so you really get the best of both worlds without having to do a huge walk.

Thorpe Cloud Walk

start: Dovedale Car Park14 minute drive from resort

distance: 2.9km

duration: 30mins-1hr

A short walk that takes you up Thorpe Cloud and through the stunning green hills of the Peak District. As you make your way up to the summit of the hill you will be able to enjoy some incredible views across Derbyshire. The walk is extremely easy to navigate and perfect for all ages and skill levels so everyone can get involved in trying out this walk.

6-10km walks

Bamford and Stanage Edge Circular Walk

start: Dennis Knoll Car Park – 42 minute drive from resort

distance: 9.2km

duration: 3-3.5hrs

This circular walk takes you to two amazing viewpoints in the Peak District. Both Bamford Edge and Stanage Edge offer unbeatable views across the valley. The walk itself isn’t difficult to navigate and the terrain isn’t overly steep but there are some rugged areas when you get to the edge of both viewpoints. It’s important to get to the car park handy too as it can become busy and is only small so fills up fast.

Chrome Hill Walk

start: park near The Quiet Woman Pub – 16 minute drive from resort

distance: 7.9km

duration: 2.5-3hrs

This is a challenging walk with very steep, rocky and in wet weather parts can be hazardous so is only for more skilled walkers. Proper walking footwear and clothing is advised when trying this route. Overall, the route offers some amazing views that overlook the countryside in the Peak District. So although this walk is tiresome and a real burner for the legs the views are worth it once you get to the top.

Tittesworth Circular Walk

start: Tittesworth Water Car Park 28 minute drive from resort

distance: 7.7km

duration: 2.5-3hrs

This circular walk is right on the edge of the Peak District National Park and is a stunningly scenic route with various terrains. This walk will take you along woodland paths, green hills and along the water. Make sure you keep an eye out for some of the wildlife that is can be found along the way. The car park does get busy so make sure you get there handy to secure a spot ready for your walk.

Padley Gorge Walk

start: Woodcroft Car Park – 36 minute drive from resort

distance: 6km

duration: 1.5-2hrs

The Padley Gorge Walk takes you from the Longshaw estate along through the Burbage Valley and in the Yarncliffe Wood. It’s a good length walk which is family friendly and the perfect addition to your day if you are wanting a rather flat walk which still offers plenty of beautiful scenery. There is an Estates National Trust tearoom by the car park too which you could stop off at before or after your walk.

Eccles Pike - walks near Rivendale

10km+ walks

Buxton to King Solomon’s Temple Walk

start: Pavilion Gardens Car Park 23 minute drive from resort

distance: 10.5km

duration: 3.5-4hrs

Most of this walk consists of tarmacked walkways but parts are stretches of farmland and uphill climbs so suitable footwear is necessary for if its muddy. It’s a route that is easy to navigate with various terrains and amazing views throughout. The walk is long and takes a few hours, but it can be completed with the whole family.

Eccles Pike Circular Walk

start: Navigation Inn – 44 minute drive from resort

distance: 11.1km

duration: 4-4.5hrs

This large circular walk takes you to the summit of two peaks where you can enjoy unbeatable views that look out across the Peak District. Most people could complete this walk although a few sections are steep, so long as you have good walking shoes on and the correct clothing you will be fine. Like all the rest of the walks this is dog friendly but when you come to the many stiles along this route you may need to help them get over.
