Located in Newquay, Cornwall, Piran Meadows is the perfect resort to entertain all the family. As well as being the perfect base for exploring all the amazing days out and sites around Cornwall. But in between all your activities that may have planned that cost money a walk or two could be the perfect addition to the holiday. Walks don’t cost any money and give you the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and take in some of the stunning views around Cornwall along the way.
1-5km walks
St Newlyn East and Lappa Valley Circular Walk
start: St Newlyn East Village Hall – 14 minute drive from resort
distance: 5.8km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
An easy route that everyone can enjoy is the St Newlyn East and Lappa Valley Circular Walk. Enjoy exploring the village at the start of the trail and then make your way through woodlands and fields before ending up back in the village.
Ladock Woods Circular Walk
start: Ladock Woods Car Park– 16 minute drive from resort
distance: 2.6km
duration: 30mins-1hr
This circular walk is a lovely short one which can be completed in around an hour. It’s the perfect walk if you are wanting to enjoy the woodlands but don’t have a lot of time in your schedule to fit a long walk in. The Ladock Woods Circular Walk is the best of both worlds.
Idless Woods Walk
start: Idless Woods Car Park – 21 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.5km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
This trail will take you through Idless Woods where you will pass the remnants of an old gunpowder factory and an ancient hillfort. So it’s perfect for exploring some history whilst along this woodland trail. Some of the route takes you along the River Allen which goes through the woods.
West Pentire Peninsular and Polly Joke Beach Walk
start: Polly Joke Car Park – 18 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.1km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
Cornwall is known for its beaches so it makes sense to try out a walking route that is near a beach. The West Pentire Peninsular and Polly Joke Beach Walk takes you across the stunning Cornish coast where you can take in the views from the coast.
6-10km walks
Perran Beach to Holywell Walk
start: Car Park on the Promenade – 24 minute drive from resort
distance: 6.9km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
This is the perfect length walk if you aren’t wanting something that will take up too much time but still want a decent distance. Along the walk you will see sandy beaches, beautiful scenery and views out to sea.
Porth Reservoir Walk
start: Porth Reservoir Car Park – 11 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.2km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
The Porth Reservoir Walk is a long but relaxing walk that takes you across a range of terrains whilst making your way around the lake. For most of the walk you will be able to enjoy stunning views of Porth Reservoir as well as the Cornish countryside and woodlands.
Crantock and The Gannel Circular Walk
start: Crantock Beach Car Park – 19 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.3km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
This circular walk is the perfect way to explore Cornwall with the different terrains from riverside settings to farmlands and even parts of Crantock Beach. You will start the walk along the River Gannel and then as you make your way back you can pop to Beachcomber Café for a bite to eat.
St Clement and Malpas Walk
start: Boscawen Park – 24 minute drive from resort
distance: 6.3km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Enjoy walking along two different rivers, some woodland and farmland terrain during the St Clement and Malpas Walk. The rivers you will walk along are the River Truro and Tresillian River which make a relaxing setting for most of the walk. Its an easy route which is flat in most parts too.
10km+ walks
Holywell Coastal Circular Walk
start: Treworgans Holiday Park – 20 minute drive from resort
distance: 15.3km
duration: 3.5-4hrs
The Holywell Coastal Circular Walk is a slightly more challenging walk than the rest due to the distance and slight elevation in areas. But if you are looking for a longer walk then you will love this trail. It takes you across part of the Cornish coast with stunning views out to sea.
South West Coast Path: Mawgan Porth to Perranporth
start: Mawgan Port Car Park – 16 minute drive from resort
distance: 26.9km
duration: 6-8.5hrs
Make the most of the stunning Cornish coast with the South West Coast Path that goes from Mawgan Porth to Perranporth. This 26.9km walk can be done in one day if you are a lover of long distance, it’s a rewarding walk with unbeatable views so it is definitely worth all the steps you will be doing.
