Whether you are planning a trip to Bath Mill Lodge Retreat in the summer or the winter it’s always good to know about some walks in the area.
Our lodge retreat is located just outside of Bath city centre in Somerset and is the perfect resort if you are wanting a city break but also want to feel like you’re in the countryside. Its location is what makes it the perfect base for exploring the local area with various days out, sites to see and walks to go on. So, this blog is full of various length walks that are around the area and are the perfect addition to your next break away to Bath.
1-5km walks
Historical Bath City Walking Tour
start: Bath Abbey – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.1km
duration: 30mins-1hrs
The perfect way to explore the city of Bath with this historical walking tour that takes you from Bath Abbey and past sites like the Roman Baths, Queen Square, Royal Crescent, and The Paragon. It’s a great walking route that is easily done during your time in the city.
Biddestone Loop
start: Biddestone – 36 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.6km
duration: 30mins-1hr
This is an easy route that doesn’t take too long to complete. The Biddestone Loop is perfect for any fitness level and has easily accessible paths throughout the route. The starting point is right next to a car park in the village and from there you will pass various buildings and sites of Biddestone.
Shearwater Tarmac Path Loop
start: Shearwater – 39 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.3km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
The Shearwater Tarmac Path Loop takes you around half of the lake before looping off and walking around part of Longleat Forest. It’s a fairly easy trail that can be done in under 2 hours and is perfect for all abilities. There is also a tea room by the lake perfect for re-fuelling after the walk.
North Stoke Circular Walk
start: North Stoke – 17 minute drive from resort
distance: 5.5km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
This circular walk is just a short drive away from the resort but takes you completely away from the city and into the countryside. Walk along the hills and meadows as you complete this trail and enjoy the views across the Cotswolds. It’s an easy route that can be completed by all.
6-10km walks
Bath Skyline Walk
start: Bathwick Hill & Cleveland Walk – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.6km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
The perfect circular walk that takes you around the city on an elevated path with views across Bath. Starting in the city you will make your way through Bath and past Sham Castle. There are also woods, fields, and country lanes throughout this route, and you end back in Bath city centre.
Kelston Round Hill Circular Walk
start: Bath Soft Cheese – 12 minute drive from resort
distance: 7km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
The Kelston Round Hill Circular Walk offers incredible views with two pit stops of a pub and café if you want to stop whilst on the walk. The loop will take around 2 hours maximum to complete and it takes you across fields and trees and in the summer, you will find various wildflowers in bloom.
Box, Ditteridge and Colerne Circular Walk
start: Selwyn Hall Car Park – 28 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.5km
duration: 2.5-3.5hrs
Although longer than some of the routes listed above, the Box, Ditteridge and Colerne Circular Walk is an easy trail that takes you through the countryside. Throughout this 9.5km trail you will walk through three Cotswolds villages and meadows. It’s a great trail with only very short parts being steep.
Upper Langridge Circular Walk
start: Bath, BA1 9DD – 17 minute drive from resort
distance: 6.8km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Enjoy walking through parts of woods and countryside on the outskirts of Bath with the Upper Langridge Circular Walk. It will take you around the historic battlefield of the 1643 Battle of Lansdown along with the villages of Lansdown and Langridge.
10km+ walks
Devizes White Horse Loop
start: Wiltshire Museum – 50 minute drive from resort
distance: 11.1km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
This loop walk takes you over the canal in Devizes and then to a steady climb up the Wessex Ridgeway. From there you will go through some woods and end up near Olivers Castle which is where you will see the disappeared white horse. From there you will go on to see the new white horse in the field.
Monarch Way Circular Walk
start: Cold Ashton Parish Hall – 24 minute drive from resort
distance: 26.7km
duration: 6.5-9.5hrs
If you are after a rather challenging route that will take you most of the day then Monarch Way Circular Walk will be perfect. It starts from the Cold Ashton village and from there you will explore all the fields and meadows across the Cotswolds AONB where you can take in the stunning views and scenery.
