1. keep it in the UK
Although a holiday abroad sounds nice, we forget how nice the UK is and how much there is to explore. Usually, a holiday in the UK is a lot cheaper than going abroad due to cost of flights, keeping to baggage allowance and the general cost of a resort and excursions. With staying in the UK, you can drive anywhere in the UK within a day driving which is cheaper than flights. And it gives you a chance to explore all the stunning locations we are lucky to have in the UK along with there being plenty of days out around your chosen area that will be perfectly suited to all the family.
2. book your escape early
When it comes to booking your holiday, you want to make sure you do it as early as possible because not only will you have more time to plan, it is also usually cheaper. Especially if you are going on holiday with children you don’t want to leave it last minute as there is more to organise. Once your holiday is booked you will then have plenty of time to research where you are going and have a look what’s in the area along with having time to think about what to pack to ensure you don’t have to buy anything when you get there like toiletries etc.
3. be flexible and try to avoid popular dates
Try to be as date savvy as you can when it comes to booking your holiday. Usually bank holidays, school half terms and summer holidays are the most popular so when you can try to avoid these dates. When you go on holiday outside of peak seasons you will find it a lot cheaper, but we understand that some people aren’t able to due to work or kids in school. It’s just something to just keep in mind when it comes to choosing your dates for your holiday.
4. choose self-catering
If you are booking a Darwin Escapes break you will be able to enjoy a self-catering holiday. All our caravans, lodges, treehouses, and beach huts come with fully fitted kitchens perfect for making all your favourite dishes. By making use of the self-catering options, you will be able to keep costs lower whilst on holiday as you won’t be eating out every night. It’s also a great way to bond as a family as you could do themed nights like a Mexican night for example, everyone can do their bit to help make all the food before sitting down together to enjoy.
5. take food with you for days out
Whilst on holiday you will probably be going on various days out. So where possible make sure you take your own food and drink. If you are enjoying a self-catering holiday, you will have all the things you need to make a packed lunch for everyone. Also make sure you have a reusable water bottle that keeps the water cold to save you from buying a drink whilst you’re out too. This will save you a lot of money as some attractions charge a lot for food and drink and if you are out as a family that can add up to a substantial amount by the end of the day.
6. bring games for the evening
It’s important to enjoy quality time together as a family or a couple or whoever you are planning on going on holiday with. And a great way to do this which doesn’t cost any money is by bringing games with you. These could be classic family board games or just a simple pack of cards to play various card games with. Either way it’s a great way to have fun and enjoy some competitive laughs without having to spend a penny as everyone has some sort of games or playing cards lying around at home.
7. low-cost days out
During your holiday in the UK, you will more than likely want to go on a couple of days out and you can do that without spending much money. There are so many free or low-cost things to do all over the UK that you won’t be far from something where you are staying.
