We have done all the research for you and put together this handy blog full of some amazing beaches, whether you’re after a beach day during the summer or a brisk beachside walk in the winter months.
Kynance Cove
Helston, TR12 7PJ | 24 minute drive away
Probably one of the most incredible beaches on the Lizard, Kynance Cove offers turquoise waters and golden sands. Although it isn’t like your usual Cornish beaches with plenty of amenities around it is still somewhere you can go for the whole day exploring the rock stacks and sea caves. From parking at the National Trust car park, you can enjoy the walk through the heathland for about a third of a mile until you get to the stairs that take you down to the cove. The cove has also been used on various TV series including Poldark and House of the Dragon.
Polurrian Beach
Mullion, Helston, TR12 7HU | 9 minute drive away
Polurrian Beach is just north from Mullion Cove and the best way to reach it is by walking along the coastal path from the resort as there are no car parks nearby. During the low tide you can enjoy a huge golden sandy beach surrounded by high cliffs making it the perfect place for a surf or swim. There aren’t any facilities or toilets near this beach but it is still an extremely popular choice for visitors and locals. Amongst the cliffs there are many rockpools that you can discover at low tide where you can spot crabs, prawns and fish.
Poldhu Beach
Mullion, Helston, TR12 7JB | 6 minute drive away
Located on the west coast of the Lizard peninsula, Poldhu Beach is just a short 6 minute drive away from the resort and makes a great day out. The beach is owned by the National Trust and is popular for visitors and locals for relaxing, surfing and wildlife watching. There is a large car park available right next to the cove along with public toilets and the Poldhu Beach Café & Shop. Whether you’re after some hot food, delicious cakes or a tasty drink there’s a great selection on offer along with plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the cove.
Housel Bay Beach
Lizard, Helston, TR12 7PG | 16 minute drive away
Housel Bay Beach is set at the bottom of some serpentine rock cliffs where you will find a small stretch of white sand and the clearest turquoise waters in the area. This bay is a little bit more off the beaten track than the others and is only accessible at low tide. If you manage to visit at the right time, you can enjoy the peacefulness of the beach with panoramic views out to sea. Make sure to keep an eye out for seals and dolphins that are known to breed around the coastline.
Kennack Sands
Helston, TR12 7LT | 17 minute drive away
Kennack Sands is a popular choice for surfers due to its large tidal range. At low tide it is a huge beach and great for beach days, walks, surfing and for most of the year it is dog friendly. Discover the many rock pools that show during the low tide along with any wildlife that many be living amongst the rocks. There are also toilets and a café right by the beach so it is the perfect place to spend the whole day.
