To help you plan, we’ve rounded up some of the best family days out just a short drive from the resort, all guaranteed to make your holiday even more memorable!
Cheddar Gorge and Caves

5 minute drive
Explore one of Britain’s most breath-taking natural wonders, enjoy a 3 mile walk that takes you up one side of the gorge and down offering incredible views across Somerset. Head underground and discover the fascinating caves, where you can learn about the history and geology of this unique landscape, there are also two Cheddar themed escape rooms that will test everyone’s brain power, or if you have any adrenaline junkies in your family there are rock sport activities suitable for ages from 8+ including rock climbing and adventure caving.
Bristol Aquarium
Bristol, BS1 5TT
35 minute drive
Only a 35 minute drive from Cheddar Woods will take you into Bristol where you can visit the aquarium. From octopus to piranhas and turtles to sharks, there is something the whole family will love! Make sure to check the times of the daily talks and feeds for different animals and it’s also worth checking the aquarium’s website before you go to see what exciting events are happening throughout the year. Then why not grab a bite to eat in the café and round up your day with a visit to the gift shop to see if your favourite animal is in there!
Mendip activity centre
Lyncombe Drive, Churchill, BS25 5PQ
You will find something suitable for everyone here with 25 different activities and you will also find something all year round no matter what the season. Offering a range of things from snowsports to rock climbing and axe throwing to frisbee golf. It’s a great way to spend quality time together and maybe even discover a brand-new family favourite hobby. After all that you will probably need to refuel, so head to the Alpine Lounge for some food and a drink.
Bristol Zoo

If your family loves animals, a day at the zoo is a must while on holiday! At Bristol Zoo, you’ll meet incredible animals like bears, cheetahs, giraffes, and so many more. Not only are there animals, but there’s also plenty of adventure for the kids too. Get lost together in the Butterfly Maze, let little ones challenge themselves on the Barefoot Trail or if you’d rather take it easy, the Fun Fort is the perfect place for them to play, come rain or shine! There are plenty of places for lunch or bring your own picnic for the whole family and of course, no zoo trip is complete without an ice cream to enjoy on your walk around.
Animal Farm Adventure Park

At the Animal Farm Adventure Park not only are there farm animals that you can cuddle and play with, but you’ll also find llamas, alpacas, tortoises, and even some more unusual residents like bearded dragons and snakes. As well as this, the Animal Farm have rescued a number of animals that have needed rehoming through lockdown or emergency care, including black foxes and wallabies! And it’s not just about the animals! Kids can burn off energy with a round of nine-hole crazy golf, climb and explore the adventure play castle, or enjoy the indoor play barn – perfect for all-weather fun. Pack a picnic to enjoy in the park or grab something tasty from the food station to refuel before heading back out for more exploring.
Weston-Super-Mare
25 minute drive
The seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare is only a 25 minute drive from Cheddar Woods. There is plenty to see and do, suitable for all ages, including the famous Grand Pier, beaches and museums. The town also hosts events throughout the year, so it’s worth checking what’s on before you go – you might just catch a festival, show, or special seaside celebration. No trip to Weston would be complete without rounding off the day with some classic fish and chips on the seafront, or, if you fancy, sampling one of the many restaurants the town has to offer.
