a weekend in the life of an owner

A Thursday afternoon, the day before the weekend starts, one of the hardest days of the week. The clock is ticking and I can’t stop watching it, I’m just waiting for the end of a long week after a hard slog in the office, I get home on a dull and dark afternoon and all I want is a break. And then I remember my glorious holiday home, my peaceful sanctuary away from everyday life. Friday starts and I get excited, my escape is near! I clock watch and then…

just imagine…

Friday afternoon is finally here! All that counting down is done, my weekly holiday escape is here at last. I grab my partner and off we go, jump in the car and drive straight to our sanctuary, the anticipation building with every mile we get closer. Pulling into my drive way, my luxury holiday home is like a shinning beacon at the end of my stressful week, I walk through the front door and I feel the tension slip away in my shoulders. Everything is how I left it last weekend, I don’t need to think about the weekly shop, having to stand in line at the supermarket, (getting coughed on or listening to all the domestics going on), no weekly clean to think about (we all know we do one). I drop my bag on the bed and we head out to the on-park restaurant, sit down at our usual table, say hello to Dave the waiter (he knows what we like) and we enjoy a mouth watering meal, simply delicious. Then we sit at the bar for a couple of hours, see our friends from number 13 and number 16, talk to Shelly at the bar, have a few drinks before taking a slow wander back to the warmth of our home away from home.

exploring at our pace

Waking up and walking out on my private decking area, coffee cup in hand, I stand and stare at the breath taking views around me, getting more excited about the adventures I’m going to have this weekend! Dressed and raring to go, we skip out the door (because I don’t run…) and take a lovely stroll around the nature walks, down to the beach and enjoy the sand in my toes (not in my sandwiches) and drop into the local tea room with the afternoon tea that’s calling my name. Then we head back to our home, and sit out on our secluded decking, light the BBQ, get the neighbours round and have a great night, a few drinks and lots of laughter.

perfect relaxation

Sunday is a relaxing day, off to the spa to have my usual full body massage and a rejuvenating facial, a fantastic reset button for the week ahead. I then sit by the pool for the rest of the day, until we leave to go back to the daily grind, but with a spring in my step from my relaxing and fun weekend away, in my favourite place, my second home. Ready to come back next weekend, more adventures and more friends to see, we may even take the bikes this time!

no booking, no waiting…

It all just sounds too good to be true, but it really isn’t! This is the lifestyle of an owner with Darwin Escapes, and it can be your new lifestyle, every weekend, just dropping everything and having a fun and relaxing, a holiday whenever you like. You don’t have to wait for the kids school holidays, or trying to get a week off in work, you can literally just get up and go, no packing, no booking, no waiting. A great new lifestyle is waiting for you to fall in love with it…

Why not take a look at our ownership opportunities? We offer great low finance rates, so getting your home away from home is easier thank you think and as stress-free as you could want it to be!

Staycations are increasingly popular, let’s see what famous faces enjoy them! Here are 10 celebrities who love caravan holidays in the beautiful UK countryside…

Static caravans are no longer the cramped and shabby spaces they used to be back in the 1970s. In 2016 your home away from home will have many modern features (HD TV’s and Blu-Ray players), they are light and airy spaces, beautifully decorated and spacious rooms. The number of UK holiday home owners is rising, with more people preferring ‘staycations’ and long weekend breaks than the chaos of airports, long booking lines and lengthy check-ins.

With the most expensive caravan being sold for over £500,000 in North Wales, the public are more aware of what luxury holiday homes can offer. From private decking, hot tubs, Jacuzzi baths to private beach access, spectacular views, Italian kitchens and super king sized beds. Celebrities are also taking advantage of the luxury holiday home offerings too; with such busy schedules many of the rich and famous prefer to take holidays in the UK.

The Dragon and successful entrepreneur is known for his lavish lifestyle, but what a lot of people won’t know is that he actually owns a holiday home in the Lake District. He first bought a static caravan 20 years ago with his first wife, and has recently bought a holiday lodge at the same park, a few doors away from his ex-wife. He clearly loves the lifestyle, being quoted as saying “I like the fact that I can just turn up, walk in and everything is here, down to my razor and toothbrush”. He wanted somewhere in the UK that he could leave his house on a Friday night, after school for the kids, and visit for the weekends, his children’s ages range from 29 to 11, so it is a great place where they all get together. He says “It is all about family and spending time together away from the house.” Great quality time.

A post shared by Coleen Rooney (@coleen_rooney) on

It was widely rumoured that the Rooney’s purchased a luxury holiday home on the North Wales coast, and being from and their family based in Liverpool this would make sense. They would have travelled there as kids with their own parents and the Rooney’s have recently added to their brood with new-born son Kit, and would probably like some time away without the added stress of airports and air travel. A holiday home is perfect for this.

So those are the 10 celebrities, another one worth mentioning would be Rio Ferdinand, it was widely publicised that he stayed in a £400-a-week holiday home, again on the North Wales coast. So staycations and UK holiday homes are increasingly popular, why not give it a go yourself and contact our ownership team? You may see some famous faces at your second home!

the food and travel stage

We all know I love food, so this was always going to be on here wasn’t it? No food, no Sarah – that’s my rule! Anyway, this stand will showcase mouth watering meals that can be cooked in a caravan and camp side (if you like sleeping on the ground in a tent, I do prefer a bed, but each to their own!). From homemade pitta breads to tasty paella, all sorts of food will be on offer here. Expert cook Andrew Dickens can not only cook, he has acted in Emmerdale and Hollyoaks (among other things), as well as presenting shows for BBC, and he will be cooking up a storm while telling us all about his 1000 mile trip around the UK. TV presenter and New York Bestselling Author Simon Reeve will be talking about travelling and food too (obviously), he will be telling us all about his latest escapades. Marine Adventurer Monty Hall (I just like saying that…) will also be dropping in to show us how to make some delicious Saltfish Cakes! Loads of tasters and recipes on offer at this attraction!

This is the place where all the stuff you didn’t know you needed will be! The leading retailers all exhibit at the Caravan and Motorhome Show, it is a place where you can go and stock up on all the essentials for the new season ahead. There is a massive range to wander around and look at, from bike racks and barbecues to sat navs, outdoor furniture and house hold must-haves (you know you need that bright green kettle, it will just go with the kitchen!) Keeping warm in the winter is everyone’s top priority, but that doesn’t mean you have to head for the airport…you can enjoy a luxury warm holiday break here, in the UK!

Winter came out of nowhere for me this year! One day I was enjoying the sun with my puppy, and the next I had my coat and gloves on while trying to coax a 10 month old Bichon out of the door and into the rain. He promptly turned around and lay in front of the fire, a very sensible decision in the grand scheme of things. Looking around the same walls throughout the winter can be hard, the dark weather and coldness can make everyone (okay, mainly me) a little cranky, so a UK holiday break away is the perfect pick-me-up! And there are some great ways to keep warm while in a lodge or holiday home this winter, read on and find out more!

saunas

Saunas are a great place to keep warm, I genuinely love them as they mean doing my favourite thing in the winter – sitting down. They are guaranteed to keep you warm, so whether you are in North Wales staying at Talacre Beach, in Somerset at Cheddar Woods or in Cornwall at the Best in Britain 2015 winner, Piran Meadows, have a sit in the sauna to warm those digits! Looking for something even more luxurious? Some of our lodges at Tilford Woods offer stunning and soothing private saunas, so after a lovely stroll around the countryside that surrounds the beautiful lodge retreat, you can sit in your very own sauna and let it warm you to your bones. Sign me up!

cosy fire

Another great way to stay warm this winter was stolen from Hugo, my 10 month old stubborn Bichon, laying down in front of a cosy fireplace. For me there really is nothing better than sitting on the sofa with a good book, or movie, and being heated by a stunning and cosy fire. And with all our holiday homes and lodges available in the winter being double glazed and centrally heated, this adds extra cosiness! With the weather all dark and wintery outside you can relax with your feet up in style and luxury, while keeping those toes warm! I think I know where to take Hugo for the winter!

hot tubs

The Icelandic population are experts in keeping warm in cold weather (stay with me…). They say to layer your clothes, jump in a geothermally heated outdoor swimming pool, and if you don’t have one of those, because lets be honest, we don’t, then jump in a glorious hot tub! And I feel that if people who can live in a place where the temperature rarely rises above 15 degrees deem a hot tub a good way to keep warm, then that’s good enough for me! I love hot tubs, you can sit outside and enjoy the extraordinary scenery around you while keeping warm – it’s like being inside but outside! I once sat in a hot tub while in -32degrees temperature in Blue Mountain, Canada, it works! So whether you are in the Lake District at Thanet Well surrounded by the countryside or down at the most southern point of the UK in Mullion Cove, then jump into the hot tub and marvel at the stunning scenery surrounding you. Take a look at all the hot tub accommodation we offer and choose your perfect UK break!

indoor heated swimming pool

This may sound a bit obvious as it has heated in the title, but you know hot tubs…

Anyways, so if you are nothing like me, and you can actually swim, then you might become unmotivated this winter because it is hard to get going in the pool when you know that dipping your toes into it, is something like sitting in an ice bath, just waiting for hyperthermia to set in. I’m not being dramatic here, it can be that bad. Well no fear at Darwin Escapes, as you can dive bomb into any of our indoor heated swimming pools with no worry of frost bite! (please don’t actually dive bomb, health and safety obviously!) Our brand new Hawkchurch Resort & Spa has a Hydrotherapy pool, that not only is designed for releasing tension and increasing circulation, it is also heated slightly higher than other pools for extra relaxation…I’m sold.

winterisation for owners

For owners the winter can mean time away from your holiday home while your resort closes for the 6 weeks winter break. This can be a time of stress if you try to get your holiday home ready for the winter yourself, but we offer a great Winterisation Package that takes care of your home away from home during this break. The package protects against any frost damage, burst pipes or leaks, all costs are covered, as well as a complete restore of the water and heating at your convenience, meaning your holiday home is then ready for your return in the spring! Find out more from our friendly reception team.

Happy UK Winter Holidaying Folks, and Keep Warm!
