Blenheim Palace Lodge Retreat is our newest resort to open in Oxfordshire and makes the perfect escape for all.
Located in Woodstock, Oxfordshire and on the grounds of the stunning Blenheim Palace Estate there is so much to see and do to keep you busy during your stay. And since you are surrounded by the stunning Oxfordshire countryside there are also a range of incredible walks that you can enjoy just a short drive away from the retreat. Read all about them below and see which ones take your fancy ready for when you visit us.
1-5km walks
Freeland Stroll
start: Freeland Hall – 11 min drive from resort
distance: 5.1km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
Overall, the Freeland Stroll is a fairly easy walk and will not take longer than an hour and a half to complete. The route takes you through some villages, picturesque countryside and parts do go along a road so be careful with children and dogs. It’s the perfect choice if you are wanting a decent walk without it taking up the full morning or afternoon.
Pinsley Wood
start: Hand and Shears – 7 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.5km
duration: 45mins-1hr
This 3.5km route takes you on a circular walk around the edge of Pinsley Wood in Oxfordshire. Anyone can enjoy this walk during your stay at the retreat as it is completely flat with no gates or stiles all the way round. One of the best times of year to do this walk is in April when the bluebells are out as it is a stunning sight to see.
Mill Wood Circular
start: North Leigh MTB Trails – 10 minute drive from resort
distance: 5.3km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
This circular walk is near Witney in Oxfordshire and takes you around Mill Wood. Overall it is a fairly easy walk that can be done by any abilities. Take care during the rainy seasons as the paths can get muddy but it’s a great dog walking spot as there are various fields that you can go on and extend the walk and let your dogs off the lead.
Thrupp to St Mary the Virgin
start: Annie’s Tea Rooms – 6 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.5km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
There are many rivers running through Oxfordshire and the Thrupp to St Mary the Virgin out and back style walk is a great choice. Only a 6 minute drive away from Blenheim Palace Lodge Retreat and it will not take you any longer than 1 and a half hours to complete. As you go along the walk you will be able to enjoy beautiful riverside views.

Blenheim Palace Circular
start: At the retreat!
distance: 7.4km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
The Blenheim Palace Circular walk can be done from your accommodation on the resort! The trail starts in Bladon but you can join it through the paths that go from the resort. The circular walk takes you all around the picturesque Blenheim Palace Estate with plenty to discover on the way around. You could even incorporate a visit into the Palace whilst you are there.
Combe Circular Walk
start: Combe Train Station – 10 minute drive from resort
distance: 8.5km
duration: 2-3hrs
The Combe Circular Walk is an easy walk that is family friendly and perfect for all abilities. Taking no longer than 3 hours to complete the trail starts at the train station and takes you through the stunning Oxfordshire countryside. You will go through the Combe village, fields and pastures on the route.
New Yatt Circular Walk
start: Farm Ln, North Leigh, Witney, OX29 6TQ – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.9km
duration: 2.5-3.5hrs
The New Yatt Circular Walk is 9.9km and takes between 2 and a half to 3 and a half hours to complete. Starting in New Yatt you will pass through farmland, woodland and over the banks of the River Evenlode. It’s a great scenic route that is perfect for all abilities to take part in if you are after a slightly longer walk in the local area.
Begbroke and Bladon Circular
start: St. Michael’s Church – 13 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.9km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
Although a slightly more challenging route it is worth it for the incredible views and scenery you will see throughout the circular walk. The Begbroke and Bladon Circular takes you through the village of Begbroke and past the village of Bladon whilst going along fields, forest tracks and sections of road. There are some stiles that are along a few of the paths on this route.
10km+ walks
Combe to Blenheim Circular Walk
start: Combe – 11 minute drive from resort
distance: 11.1km
duration: 2.5-4hrs
Taking no longer than 4 hours to complete, the Combe to Blenheim Circular Walk is a great choice if you want something local. You will be able to explore the village of Combe as well as the beautiful countryside as you make your way through woodlands to reach Blenheim. It’s a great walk that everyone can enjoy.
Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk
start: Stonesfield OX29 8PT – 11 minute drive from resort
distance: 12.3km
duration: 3-4hrs
The Stonesfield via Roman Villa Walk is a 12.3km route that will take between 3 and 4 hours to complete. You will be able to take in the stunning views of the Oxfordshire countryside as you make your way through farmland, explore ruins that date back to 100 CE and pass the River Evenlode. It’s a great route that takes you into the grounds of Blenheim Estate.
