some of our favourite things to do in North Wales
Beaumaris Castle
This castle was to be King Edward I’s crowning glory, after the building of Conwy, Caernarfon, and Harlech Castles. However, Beaumaris Castle was never finished! In 1320, King Edward hit financial hardship and was having a spot of trouble in Scotland which took him away from the castles.
Although it was never completed, the castle is still a masterpiece of symmetry – it also has four rings of defence, including 300 arrow loops, and a water-filled moat!
The Smallest House in Great Britain
Measuring just 72 inches across and 122 inches high, the tiny house is a popular attraction in Conwy! There’s a bedroom and living area, with basic cooking facilities – all inside this tiny red building.
It was originally a ‘fill in house’ in-between cottages, and was home to a number of couples, before the last resident in 1900, a fisherman named Mr Robert Jones. You can go into the house for yourself, and – if not exactly ‘walk’ – still take a look around, imagining what it would have been like to live in the smallest house in Great Britain!
Zip World
There are three sites to visit and find adventure with Zip World, North Wales. The Zip Forest holds tree-top fun, including the sky ride, the forest coaster, the terrifying Plummet 2, and the Tree-Hoppers experience! Penrhyn Quarry is home to the fastest zip wire in the world, Velocity 2, where you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the old quarry.
It’s also home to the brand new quarry karts attractions, for all ages to enjoy! Visit the Slate Caverns for the fantastically unique Bounce Below attraction, where you’ll walk, climb and jump on nets in the underground caverns while suspended over vast drops. A true thrill-seeker’s dream!
Conwy Castle
A beautiful and well-preserved medieval castle in North Wales is waiting to be explored. Built by King Edward I as part of his ‘iron circle’ of castles, he also created the walled town of Conwy in 1283, and these walls still stand and can be walked on today!
The stunning towers now have restored spiral stairs, so you can do a full battlement circuit of Conwy Castle, just like the soldiers would have done back in the 1200s.
Adventure Parc Snowdonia
Adventure Parc Snowdonia is home to a specially designed in-land lagoon, as well as indoor and outdoor adventure activities. Visitors can enjoy free surf sessions or book tailored surfing lessons, explore indoor caves, dive feet-first down 90-degree slides, get windswept on zip-wires, or test their speed and agility on the ninja assault courses.
There’s something for every kind of adventurer here!
