Either way, this blog will be a useful read for you to plan days out whilst in the area. We’ve done the research for you and put together different walking routes ranging from 3km all the way to almost 15km so there is something for everyone. All the walks are close to the resort too with the furthest being 25 minutes away. Have a read below and see which take your fancy ready for when you make your way down to Devon to stay with us.
1-5km walks
Musbury Castle Loop
start: Church Hill – 12 min drive from resort
distance: 5.9km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
The Musbury Castle Loop is an easy route that is perfect for anyone to enjoy. The route starts on Church Hill and takes you on a full circular trail where you go past Musbury Castle which is an iron-age hill fort that sits around 175m above sea level. Along this walk you can take in the stunning views across the Axe Valley especially on a clear day.
Trinity Hill Circular
start: Trinity Hill Nature Reserve – 6 minute drive from resort
distance: 2.9km
duration: 30mins-1hr
This circular trail takes you up and around Trinity Hill and is a short walk but is perfect if you are wanting to enjoy some fresh air, explore the local area and stay local to the resort. The route starts from Trinity Hill Nature Reserve car park which is a 6 minute drive from the resort. From there you walk up the field and loop back round, it’s considered a challenging route but takes no more than an hour to complete.
Beer to Branscombe Beach
start: Cliff Top Car Park – 25 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.4km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
Enjoy a coastal walk from Beer to Branscombe Beach with this point-to-point style route. It is a 3.4km stretch to go from point to point but you could go there and back making it slightly longer. Along the way you will see various beaches like Hooken Beach and Little Beach as well as having the chance to take in the stunning views out to sea.
Offwell Lake and Wetlands Circular
start: Offwell Village Hall – 18 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.1km
duration: 30mins-1hr
The Offwell Lake and Wetlands Circular walk is a short and peaceful walk that takes you through woodland, countryside and country lanes. If you have dogs this is a great trail as there are plenty of areas where you can let them run free. Some areas can be muddy at times depending on how the weather has been so you will want to wear boots or wellies.
6-10km walks
Cannington Viaduct Loop
start: Trinity Hill Nature Reserve – 6 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.3km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
The Cannington Viaduct Loop is a great hiking route for those at an intermediate level with good fitness. All the paths are easily accessible and the start of the trail is right by the car park. On the walk you will go past the Cannington Viaduct which is a Grade II Listed Building and is a popular historical landmark in the area.
Dalwood Loop
start: The Knapp – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 8.7km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
Enjoy this slightly longer circular trail which is the Dalwood Loop which takes you through Dalwood and past Yarty Farm. You will walk along easily accessible paths and country lanes as well as going through the Dalwood village. It’s a great walk that has some steep inclines but is fine for those with good fitness levels.
Axminster Heritage Centre Loop
start: Axminster Station – 10 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.7km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Axminster is the closest town to the resort and is perfect to explore whilst you are staying with us. This Axminster Heritage Centre Loop is perfect for that as it starts in the centre of town and takes you around the town and the fields nearby. It’s a good length walk but still won’t take you all day so it’s a great addition to your morning or afternoon.
Coney’s Castle – Wootton Hill Loop
start: Charmouth Forest – 5 minute drive from resort
distance: 9km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
Enjoy the Coney’s Castle – Wootton Hill Loop which is a 9km circular walk and will take you no longer than 2.5 hours to complete. This walk takes you along a National Trust trail as you make your way up to Coney’s Castle. The walk also takes you along wooded areas as you make your way along Wootton Hill. The start of the walk is by Charmouth Forest at the car park.
10km+ walks
The Lynch at Lyme Regis Loop
start: Scotts Lane – 3 minute drive from resort
distance: 14.8km
duration: 3.5-4hrs
The Lynch at Lyme Regis Loop is almost 15km long circular loop that takes you from the Lyme Regis coast all the way up to the Wootton Hill area and back down to the coast. You will pass various sights along the way from the Mary Anning Statue to The Cobb and various viewpoints. It’s a great walk that will take all morning or afternoon and is great for some fresh air.
Cannington Campsite, Rousdon and Monmouth Circular
start: Cannington Farm Cottages – 12 minute drive from resort
distance: 11.6km
duration: 3-3.5hrs
This 11.6km circular trail is just down the road from the resort and will take no longer than 3.5 hours to complete. It’s a slightly challenging route but perfect if you want to enjoy a morning or afternoon out exploring the local area with a fun trail like this. You will be able to see all the stunning scenery of this area of Devon as well as parts of the walk giving you views out to sea.
