North Wales is known for its impressive coastline and stunning countryside, and you can enjoy exploring both whilst you stay at Talacre Beach or Seaview. But if you are new to the area, you may not know about some of the amazing walks that aren’t too far away from the resorts. So, we thought we’d put together this list of walking routes at various lengths to suit all ages and abilities. Have a read and see which take your fancy the most.
1-5km walks
Prestatyn Gutter and Gronant Dunes Circular
start: Barkby Beach Car Park – 8 min drive from resort
distance: 4.8km
duration: 45mins-1hr
Enjoy this circular walk that takes you from the car park on the front up and along Prestatyn golf course, from there you will go round and along the front. It’s a great way to take in views out to sea along the coast in Prestatyn. You could add this walk onto a beach day too.
Tumulus Hill
start: Hillside Gardens – 10 minute drive from resort
distance: 1.9km
duration: 30mins-1hr
Enjoy the Tumulus Hill route which is a moderately challenging walk but will take no longer than an hour to complete. Starting at the Hillside Gardens you will make your way up the hill till you get to the top, where you can enjoy some incredible views. Before heading back down the same way you came.
Mulberry Farm Circular
start: Hillside Car Park – 12 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.7km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
For a challenging but short walk the Mulberry Farm Circular will be a great choice. Starting at the Hillside Car Park you will make your way along the path that takes you up the hill until you get to Mulberry Farm. From here you will loop back down along some steps until you reach the start.
Mynydd y Cwm
start: St Asaph LL17 0TY – 18 minute drive from resort
distance: 2.4km
duration: 30mins-1hr
Enjoy this 2.4km route that takes you along fields and forests whilst you can enjoy coastal views across the North Wales coast. It’s a great route that is challenging in areas but doesn’t take too long to complete so it’s suitable for all abilities.
6-10km walks
Craig Fawr and Prestatyn-Dyserth-Way Circular
start: Hillside Gardens – 10 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.7km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
The Craig Fawr and Prestatyn-Dyserth-Way Circular is a 7.7km circular route that takes you along the Prestatyn-Dyserth-Way where you will then head up Craig Fawr. Here you can enjoy some incredible views on a clear day all the way along the coastline. From here you will pass through Coedy r Esgob until you end up back at the start.
Gronant Circular
start: Hillside Car Park – 12 minute drive from resort
distance: 8km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
With the Gronant Circular walk you will go from Gwaenysgor to St Elmos Summer House and from there make your way back round to Upper Gronant. You will pass through various country roads, fields, and woodland along the way with plenty of views to enjoy.
Dyserth to Prestatyn
start: Dyserth to Prestatyn Way – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 8km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
The Dyserth to Prestatyn route follows the old railway line that was used to carry silver, lead, zinc and limestone that was mined in the area. Now you can follow it through trees and woodland as you make your way from Dyserth all the way to Prestatyn and back. There is a café halfway or you can stop for a rest when you get to Prestatyn before heading back.
Point of Ayr to Gronant Dunes
start: Talacre Beach – 2 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.7km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
The Point of Ayr to Gronant Dunes is an out and back style route that takes you along the stunning beach in Talacre. Make your way along the beach before joining the coastal path until you reach Gronant Dunes Nature Reserve where you will find a viewpoint to spot birds.
10km+ walks
Point of Ayr Coastal Trail
start: Wales Coast Path – 3 minute drive from resort
distance: 11.9km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
Right by Talacre Beach Resort is the Wales Coastal Path, you can enjoy the Point of Ayr Coastal Trail which starts just round the corner from the resort. You can follow it all along the front and past a RSPB bird hide where you can sit and watch some birds.
Bagillt Beacon, Duke of Lancaster Fun Ship and Holywell Circular
start: High Street Car Park – 18 minute drive from resort
distance: 18.5km
duration: 3.5-4hrs
If you are looking for a longer walking route to try the Bagillt Beacon, Duke of Lancaster Fun Ship and Holywell Circular will be perfect. It’s a long walk but one that everyone can enjoy, although there are some challenging areas at times there is plenty to see along the way to make it worthwhile.
