Located in the Lake District, Keswick Reach Lodge Retreat is the perfect base for exploring and trying various walks in the local area.
The Lake District offers everything you can imagine, from stunning landscapes, deep lakes, tall crags, and incredible mountains. And during your nature-filled escape at Keswick Reach you can explore all that is on offer in the local area. Whether you have been to the area before or not it is always handy knowing about different walking routes that are only a short drive from the resort. So, we have done all the research for you and put together this list of different walks suitable for all abilities.
1-5km walks
Binsey Trail
start: CA7 1HH – 7 min drive from resort
distance: 2.6km
duration: 1hr
The Binsey Trail is an out and back style walk that takes you up to the summit on Binsey. Overall, it’s a short but well rewarding walk as on a clear day you can enjoy some incredible views of the surrounding areas. The area is active farmland so there can be sheep on the hill throughout the day.
Ling Fell Circular
start: CA13 9YP – 13 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.4km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
A great trail to enjoy for all abilities is the Ling Fell Circular, taking no longer than an hour and a half to complete. Starting on the road you will be able to enjoy a gradual trail up to the summit of Ling Fell taking in the surrounding views before making your way back down.
Graystones and Spout Force
start: Grisedale Pike Path, Keswick CA12 5TL – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.2km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Starting from the car park you will be able to enjoy some incredible mountain scenery. Follow the path until you get to Sprout Force, an incredible waterfall hidden in the trees, then continue the walk up to Graystones before following the trail back down.
Hopegill Valley Walk
start: CA13 9UD – 24 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.4km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
This 3.4km trail is a great choice if you are wanting something short but still rewarding. It’s an out and back style route and will take you on a gradual incline that meanders through the Hopegill Valley where you can enjoy incredible views of the Lake District.
6-10km walks
Fellbarrow and Low Fell Circular
start: CA13 0RP – 22 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.7km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
This 7.7km route takes you up the summits of Fellbarrow, Smithy Fell and Low Fell so you can expect to enjoy some incredible views from start to finish. It is quite a tough trail, but it is worth doing for the sights you will see along the way.
Burnbank and Blake Fell
start: CA14 4TS – 20 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.2km
duration: 2.5-3hrs
Overall, this is a challenging route that will take no longer than 3 hours to complete. Although challenging it is extremely rewarding with the views at the summit of Burnbank and Blake Fells. As well as the surrounding lakes and hills there is also wildlife to keep an eye out for along the way.
Cockermouth and Newton Wood Circular
start: CA13 9HF – 14 minute drive from resort
distance: 7.4km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
This 7.4km route is a peaceful wildlife walk that takes you from Cockermouth to Newton Wood in a circular trail. It’s a great choice for all abilities to enjoy and as you make your way around the wooded areas you will be able to keep an eye out for any local wildlife.
Bassenthwaite Lake
start: Dodd Wood – 9 minute drive from resort
distance: 6.3km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Bassenthwaite Lake is an incredible lake not far away from Keswick Reach and this is a great out and back style walk that takes no longer than 2 hours to complete. You will be able to enjoy great views of the lake as you make your way through woodlands and farmland along the lake edge.
10km+ walks
Buttermere – Haystacks
start: National Trust Car Park Buttermere – 32 minute drive from resort
distance: 11.9km
duration: 4-4.5hrs
Starting in Buttermere, you will be able to enjoy this long 11.9km trail that takes you around the edge of Buttermere Lake. Overall, this walk is on flat paths but there is a section that has an incline as you head up to Haystacks, but you will be rewarded with some incredible views to make the climb worthwhile.
Wordsworth House Countryside Walk
start: Sullart Street Car Park – 15 minute drive from resort
distance: 13.7km
duration: 4-4.5hrs
The Wordsworth House Countryside Walk is a great trail that mixes natural and historic sights as you make your way around various terrains. It’s a circular walk that starts and ends in Cockermouth so you can start the walk by visiting William Wordsworth’s birthplace and childhood home.
