Devon is known for many things, its charming coastal towns and its incredible beaches, but there are also a few hidden gems that you may not have known about…

Now is probably the time you are thinking about your next getaway and planning what to do whilst you’re there. So hopefully this blog has come at the right time, there are probably plenty of things you can think about doing whilst you’re in Devon on a staycation, but did you know about some of these hidden gems? Tunnels Beaches

Ilfracombe, EX34 8AN

Located in the coastal town of Ilfracombe, the Tunnels Beaches are a network of hand carved tunnels that date back to the 1820s that lead to secret beaches and rock pools. They are a fascinating visit and perfect for everyone to enjoy if you are in the area. It costs around £4 per adult and £3.25 per child to enter the beaches for the day and once you’re in you can explore the many rock pools and rugged scenery that surrounds you.

Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall

Bideford, EX39 6DY

The South West Coast Path is a well known part of the coastline going across Devon, but did you know about the incredible waterfall that falls dramatically off the cliffside? Speke’s Mill Mouth Waterfall is located just a short 30-minute stroll from Hartland Quay and is definitely worth doing whilst in Devon. As well as the waterfall the views you will be rewarded with once you get to the coastline are amazing.

Lundy Island

Bristol Channel, Devon, EX39 2LY

Although not technically in Devon, Lundy is a nature reserve and remote island just off the North Devon coast. The island is home to a pub, church, working farm, lighthouses and plenty of wildlife to see from seals, puffins, highland cows and more. You can access the island on a ferry that goes from either Bideford or Ilfracombe or in winter you can go via helicopter.

Burrow Farm Gardens

Axminster, EX13 7ET

The Burrow Farm Gardens are East Devons secret gardens and make a wonderful day out in the Spring and Summer months. The 13-acre garden has over 8 areas to explore from the Woodland Garden, The Millenium Garden, the Terrace Garden and more. Burrow Farm also has a tea room offering delicious Devon cream teas and plenty of other coffee and light lunch options.

Heddon Valley

Barnstaple, EX31 4PY

Heddon Valley is set within Exmoor National Park and offers plenty to see and do from exploring the towering cliffs, coves and wooded river valley. There are various routes and trails that you can follow depending on time and difficulty but all offer amazing views and stunning scenery. There is a café and pub here too so plenty on offer for food and drink whilst you’re there.
