august bank holiday in Surrey

  • places to visit
August 19, 2016

Surrey has it all, beautiful countryside, wonderful nature walks and loads of family fun August Bank Holiday events for you to enjoy. Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat is home to the wonderful Darwin Ducks family, as you sit back and enjoy the scenery you will hear the quiet quacking from their very own lodge on the pond. Being only a short train journey away from the bustling capital city of London, Tilford Woods is the perfect base for your Bank Holiday plans this year…

wings & wheels

When: 27th – 28th August

The annual Wings & Wheels event in Surrey is a huge hit with tourists and locals alike, with an all day air show and a two hour motoring show which is sure to capture everyone’s attention! There is a fun kids zone with fairground attractions, including motoring and pilot simulators and you can meet the real pilots of the planes above your head too! The Military Zone has re-enactments of battles, and some great memorabilia, with the family area having children’s inflatables, an interactive car show and in the Stunt Zone, the incredible Messham’s Wall of Death show (those guys are crazy talented!). Retail village has over 80 different traders stalls to browse through too. A wonderful weekend of family fun and death defying stunts, seriously do not miss the Wall of Death… truly incredible!

west end (esher) summer show

When: 27th August

In a village green setting you will be forgiven for thinking you are in a set from Hot Fuzz (for the greater good), this traditional Bank Holiday family fun fete will hit all those nostalgia feels! The West End (Ehser) Summer Show will have fun fairground rides, including the tea cups (literally my favourite ride ever…) local craft stalls to browse around and local produce to buy and take back to your lodge and snuffle on. With live music, kids entertainment and a family friendly atmosphere, you can’t go wrong visiting the West End (Esher) Summer Show!

music in the meadow

When: 28th August

Bring a picnic for the family, or enjoy refreshments from the tea tent at Music in the Meadows, with sales of tea, coffee and cake going to charity. There will be live music from local bands and musicians, with everything from 1960’s to present day, including jazz, off the wall pop, rock standards and soul covers, there will something for everyone’s taste to tap your toes along too.

You can always jump on a train to visit the capital city, explore London and the goings on around August Bank Holiday, then returning to your peaceful and luxurious lodge at Tilford Woods, surrounded by nature.

Happy Adventuring this Bank Holiday!
