Since we have Stratford-upon-Avon Lodge Retreat located just minutes away from the town centre, we’d like to say we know a thing or two about things to do in the area. Whether you are wanting to learn more about the history or wanting to take in the sights there is something for everyone listed below.

Shakespeare’s Birthplace

Henley St, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6QW | 10 min drive from resort

William Shakespeare’s birthplace is in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon and is open for visitors to explore. During your visit you will be able to hear about the history of Shakespeare’s family and see the Trust’s collections. It’s a great introduction to Shakespeare as you dive more into the impressive history of his life and his plays. Shakespeare’s Birthplace is open daily and there is also a gift shop that you can browse after you have explored the house and exhibitions.

The MAD Museum

The Mechanical Art & Design Museum, also known as The MAD Museum, is one of Warwickshire’s best loved museums. Make your way around over 70 different exhibits that you can interact with, from marble runs, moving contraptions and more there is something for the whole family to enjoy. And before you leave make sure you pop into the gift shop where they sell over 150 fun gadgets.

Royal Shakespeare Theatre

Waterside, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 6BB | 13 min drive from resort

Located right beside the River Avon, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre is a performing arts theatre dedicated to the English playwright and poet William Shakespeare. As well as the performances on throughout the year that you can book tickets for you can also enter the Grade II listed building for free. Inside you can head to the Riverside Café and enjoy a drink or small bite to eat, or even head up the Tower and take in the incredible view across the town.

Stratford Butterfly Farm

Swan’s Nest Lane, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 7LS | 14 min drive from resort

Known for being the UK’s largest tropical butterfly paradise, Stratford Butterfly Farm is a great day out for families of all ages. It is located just a short walk from the town centre and has hundreds of free flying butterflies, birds and a pool with some fish. It will take no longer than 2 hours to explore the farm and at the end you can head to the nature inspired gift shop which has plenty of gifts, drinks, ice creams and other confectionery.

Canal and River Tours

Stratford-upon-Avon has the River Avon running through the town as well as a historic canal and you can explore both with the Canal and River Tours. They have been voted number 1 outdoor attraction in Stratford-upon-Avon on TripAdvisor and you can enjoy various trips. Experience a working lock in action, enjoy a sunset cruise on the weekend, or just try out their standard 40 minute tours along the River Avon.

Tudor World

Tudor World is a living history museum that can be found right in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon. Completely interactive with various exhibits inside a period building you will be able to learn all about the 16th century. Allow around 2 hours to make your way around the museum and take in all the history. They also have a Shakespeare Tour and a Ghost Tour which takes place after the museum is closed.

Anne Hathaway’s Cottage

22 Cottage Ln, Shottery, Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 9HH | 10 min drive from resort

Anne Hathaway was the wife of William Shakespeare and her 12 room farmhouse is just a mile away from Stratford-upon-Avon. You can visit the cottage and learn all about Anne and her family that lives here for 13 generations. As well as the cottage there are acres of gardens and orchards that you can explore along with a sculpture trail that was inspired by Shakespeare’s plays.
