Below you will find a step-by-step guide covering everything you need to know and everything you need to consider when it comes to how to buy a holiday home.
1. things to consider when researching
budget…
Probably the most important part of buying a holiday home is figuring out what budget you have. When you’ve got a budget, you can realistically see what options are available across the UK in terms of the location and the type and size of holiday home that will be best suited to you.
location…
Once you’ve got your budget the next thing to think about is where you want to buy your holiday home. The location is the most important part as you need to research the local area, how long you are happy to travel and what resorts or parks are in that area. Then you can figure out which you like the look of the most.
type of home…
Depending on what your plan is with buying a holiday home will depend on what type you’d like or need. The most popular holiday homes are caravans and lodges, and they range from 1 bedroom up to 4 bedrooms usually with 1 to 3 bathrooms. So have a look what’s on offer at your chosen resort and see which suits your family the most.
2. book a tour of resort and holiday home
Once you have found a resort that takes your fancy you will probably be able to look online at what holiday homes are for sale there. Then it’s then time to book a tour of the resort and some holiday homes that you may like. This is when you will find out all the information about what’s on the resort and any key information about the holiday home from annual site fees and what’s included like decking and appliances etc.
3. find out about buying options
There are several ways that you can buy a holiday home in the UK and each resort and holiday home type will offer a different option. The main ways of buying a holiday home are by paying in full, using a bank loan or using the resorts finance options. Once you’ve decided on the holiday home you want to purchase you will be able to discuss all buying options and figure out which one is best for you.
4. how long can you live in a holiday home in the UK?
It depends. The length you can stay in your holiday home will depend on the resort you are at. All of our Darwin Escapes resorts are non-residential holiday resorts and therefore you must have a primary residence away from the resort. However, many of our resorts have extensive seasons which do allow you to holiday throughout the year. Some seasons will be 10 months, others 11 months and we even have resorts which offer a full 12 month season.
