Spending Christmas in the hauntingly beautiful Lake District? Here is something to get you in the festive spirit!

Thanet Well Lodge Retreat is set in an Area if Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by glorious woodland, fields and of course The Lakes. Out of all our locations this is where you are most likely to see snow! And who doesn’t like snow?! It’s fun, magical and there is always the hope that the snowman might actually come to life! (that’s not just me right?) Penrith is a stunning town set in The Lakes and has something to get everyone in the Christmas spirit with Penrith Winter Festival.

If you just wanted the important information, scroll down to the need to know table below.

Penrith winter festival

The festival is a month-long event and has loads going on throughout that time, including the Christmas Market and a festive light illumination called ‘Penrith Sparkles’ that kicks the whole festival off. You can join in with the rest of the businesses in town for Christmas Jumper Day, the festive park run and the ‘paint the town red’ window display competition. You can also follow the elves around town and get an #elfieselfie, upload the picture onto social media to be within a chance of wining a prize! Virgin Trains are also getting in on the Christmas action, with Santa’s Post Box, the box is going up in Penrith Train Station for kids to put their letters to Santa in, the box will then be taken away by Santa himself and taken to the North Pole to be sorted out! The festive run is a 5k run in Christmas-themed outfits, be a Santa, an elf, reindeer or even a cracker, getting fit for a good cause and looking festively fantastic! The ‘Totally Locally’s Fiver Fest’ promotes local and small businesses, who will run special offers on the run up to Christmas. The Christmas Markets will be trading over two weekends, the traditional wooden chalets will house unique Christmas treats, mulled wine and mince pies with lots of homemade gifts and crafts to have a look through. Santa will also be making an appearance in his very own winter wonderland chalet; plus, the town band will be playing throughout the festival to add to the Christmas cheer. The markets signal the end of the winter festival, be sure not miss out on this magical time of year!
