A holiday can be just as exciting for you as it is your pet, but you want to make sure you do everything you can so that it is a fun experience for them.
Taking them out of the comfort of their own home and into a new environment can be stressful for them so its important to prepare them for the holiday. Below we have listed a few things that you can do to ensure your pet has the best time during your holiday. And if your pet is having a good time that means you will too as you won’t be worrying about them.
ensure the accommodation you have booked is pet-friendly
Before you do anything, you need to make sure the place you are booking is pet-friendly or at least has pet-friendly accommodation available for you to book. You also want to make sure there is plenty of outside space for the type of breed you have along with researching any rules the park may have regarding areas that are off limits and how many pets you can bring.
plan and prepare for your journey
Depending where you’re staying your car journey could be a few hours so you need to make sure your pet is as comfortable as possible for the ride. If they aren’t good being in the car it would be a good idea to practise and take them out for a few longer journeys before the holiday. You will also want to make sure you bring plenty of water and make plenty of stops for them to get some fresh air, stretch their legs and go to the toilet.
pack enough to cover various scenarios
Make sure you think of everything and anything you might need during your time away. From their dog bed so they have home comforts to some medication just incase they get a funny tummy. The best thing to do would be to create a checklist full of everything for all scenarios and tick them off once you’ve packed them away. let them explore the area
When you get to your holiday take your pet out for a walk around so they can get used to all the new smells, sounds and area. That way they will get comfortable with their surroundings. Ensure you bring their bed straight into the holiday home too so that they have some home comforts there as soon as they get inside. Once your pet has settled down you can then unpack and enjoy your holiday together.
