Our very own Jocelyn Granger from Rivendale Lodge Retreat is taking part in a huge, sponsored cycle on the 3rd June this year!

Jocelyn has said:

“They say that you slow down and take it easier as you get older. ‘They’ obviously don’t know me!

The Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle tour (LEJOG) has been on my bucket list for a long time and 2023 is the year it’s going to happen; 3rd – 18th June to be exact.  I’m joining a small group of other cyclists on an escorted tour and will be cycling just under 1000 miles over 2 weeks with an average mileage of 72 miles per day.   The shortest LEJOG route is 874 miles but where possible our route follows quiet country lanes and cycleways which will be much more enjoyable.  For the record the fastest completion is 43 hrs 25 mins 13 secs.  There will be hills; we are warned.  I live on the wild Staffordshire Moorlands in the Peak District, so hills don’t worry me.  It’ll be tough, we are told.  Life is tough; it’s how you live it that matters, and I’ve tackled a fair share of challenges during my 61 years – some planned and some not.”

With this sponsored cycle Jocelyn will be raising money for a local project that was prompted by the cost of living and energy cost crisis. The local community radio station Leek Radio CIC set up a Warm Hub in November 2022 to support local residents.

“Leek Radio is a community focused organisation just trying to make a difference.  Through the Warm Hub Project we have been able to provide a safe warm space to local residents who are having to choose between heating or eating.  We are here for EVERYONE, to give you some respite from the cost of living and energy costs crisis, somewhere you don’t have to worry about how long the heating is on for or whether the thermostat is set too high.”

Jocelyn officially started training last week with the three-month countdown officially on. Each week Jocelyn plans on doubling the training mileage and will end up finishing with a 172-mile week a fortnight before setting off on 3rd June. Some of the training miles will be completed cycling to and from work at Rivendale Lodge Retreat.
