But deciding which walk is right for you can be hard so we’ve done the research and put together a list of various walks that you can enjoy during your stay at Canterbury Reach.

1-5km walks

Marlowe’s Canterbury Walk

start: Longport Car Park  – 11 minute drive from resort

distance: 2.57km

duration: 30mins-1hr

The Marlowe’s Canterbury Walk takes you through the heart of Canterbury and is mostly flat surfaces so it’s suitable for prams and wheelchairs. It’s called the Marlowe’s walk as you go past various buildings linked to Marlowe’s past. Christopher Marlowe is best remembered for his heady lifestyle which was a mix of scandal, religion, and espionage.

Blean Wildart Trail

start: West Blean & Thornden Woods Car Park23 minute drive from resort

distance: 1.77km

duration: 30mins

This trail is located in Thornden Wood with Kent Wildlife Trust who have used natural, local materials to create sustainable artwork which blends into the surroundings. This trail will take you around and you can enjoy looking at all the art. As the pieces begin to decay new artwork can be created and installed creating a never ending cycle.

Tyler Hill and the Sarre Penn Valley Walk

start: Giles Lane Car Park – 19 minute drive from resort

distance: 5.47km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The walk starts from The Ivy House just up from the car park and the trail consists of soft surfaces, gentle gradients and footbridges so walking boots are recommended. This is a circular walk so it starts and ends at The Ivy House so at the end of your walk you can enjoy some refreshments here.

Reculver Walk

start: Reculver Public Car Park37 minute drive from resort

distance: 5.6km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

Enjoy a walk full of incredible views, heritage and more perfect for all walking abilities. The circular walk takes you past a fort the Romans build in 43AD and the surrounding countryside through Reculver Country Park. When you are in Reculver Country Park you can head into the visitor centre where they display more information about the history of the local area.

6-10km walks

Chartham Walk

start: Chartham Village Hall Car Park – 8 minute drive from resort

distance: 8km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The Chartham Walk is a circular walk which is a popular and fairly easy trail to complete. The walk is full of lovely countryside views and plenty of lakes and orchards on the way around. On the last part of the circular walk you can take a small detour from the trail to visit the Larkeyvalley Nature Reserve with plenty of woodlands to explore if you fancied.

Dunkirk & Denstroude Walk

start: The Red Lion Pub – 15 minute drive from resort

distance: 7.24km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The whole circular walk is relatively flat but can be muddy in some areas so walking boots are advised. The walk starts in Dunkirk and takes you over to Denstroude and back to Dunkirk and as the start and end point is The Red Lion Pub you can enjoy a bite to eat before or after you complete the walk.

Grove Ferry Walk

start: Grove Ferry Inn 24 minute drive from resort

distance: 9.82km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

With the Grove Ferry Walk you can enjoy a long gentle stroll along the banks of the Great Stour. Pass numerous boats and orchards as the trail passes small villages of East Stourmouth and West Stourmouth. During your walk make sure you look out for orchards, churches, birds and more.

Barham & Adisham Walk

start: Adisham Railway Station – 16 minute drive from resort

distance: 9.66km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The walk begins in the Adisham village and joins the North Downs Way before going into some woodland sections. The walk itself is fairly flat with no stiles but paths can be muddy during certain times of the year due to weather. It’s a circular walk so the trail starts and ends at the Adisham Railway Station.

10km+ walks

Chilham Circular Walk

start: Chilham Station Car Park 11 minute drive from resort

distance: 15.4km

duration: 5-6hrs

Enjoy a walk into the Kentish Downs as you complete the Chilham Circular Walk. There are some parts of the trail that are uphill but if you start in the morning, you will get the climbing out the way before the afternoon and then enjoy the rest of the trail which is mainly flat and downhill. Along the route there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy a bite to eat too.

Sheldwich – A Land For All Seasons Walk

start: Sheldwich Lees – 22 minute drive from resort

distance: 14.89km

duration: 5-5.5hrs

This walk sets out from the village of Sheldwich where you will make your way deep into the farming country. Head through cornfields, country lanes, spring meadows and farms as you complete this 14km circular walk. The village itself has various pubs nearby so once you complete the walk you can enjoy some food and drink as a reward.
