Our Norfolk Woods Resort & Spa is in the picturesque town of King’s Lynn, and you will find various walking routes around the area.
When booking a holiday with Darwin Escapes, we like to ensure you know as much as you can about the local area from days out to places to eat and even walks near the resort. So, we have done all the research for you and put together this handy blog full of both short and long walking routes so you will find one to suit your group below.
1-5km walks
Blickling Mausoleum Walk
start: Woodgate Car Park – 57 minute drive from resort
distance: 2.89km
duration: 40mins–1hr
This walk is perfect if you don’t want something too long but still want to see something impressive. You will be able to explore part of Blickling Park as you make your way through the woods and open grassland which leads you to the Mausoleum in the Great Wood. It’s a fairly easy walk with gentle slopes so perfect for all abilities.
Reffley Wood Circular Walk
start: Reffley Wood – 19 minute drive from resort
distance: 3.7km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
Enjoy a woodland trail that takes you around Reffley Wood. It’s a short circular trail that you can do to explore the woodland and all the wildlife that is around. And due to it being under 4km in distance it is easily done in under 2 hours so it can be added into any plans or as a last-minute decision if you have some time to fill during your holiday.
Sandringham Railway Path
start: King’s Lynn, PE30 4QE – 21 minute drive from resort
distance: 5.3km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
This walk is an out-and-back type of trail that takes you along the Sandringham Railway Path. It is a popular cycle and walking path that is tarmacked making it perfect for all. Whether you are biking, walking or have a pram everyone can complete this walk. And with it being not too far from the resort it is an easy addition to any day.
Burnham Overy Circular Walk
start: North Norfolk Paddle Boards – 43 minute drive from resort
distance: 4.8km
duration: 1-1.5hrs
With it being just under 5km, the Burnham Overy Circular Walk can be completed in around an hour making it a great way to start or end your day in Norfolk. Part of the walk takes you on the coastal path and around Overy Marsh before circling round through the countryside. It’s an easy trail to follow and goes across a range of landscapes.
6-10km walks
Sheringham Circular Walk
start: Pretty Corner Car Park – 55 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.65km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
Discover a range of beautiful landscapes as you complete the Sheringham Circular Walk. It’s a route that covers many things from parkland to woodland and even some quieter areas of marsh and grassland. The route also takes you past the Poppy Line railway and if you time it right you might see a steam train passing. The walk starts and ends in Sheringham town so you can enjoy exploring once you have finished the walk.
Sandringham Sawmill and The Collects Circular Walk
start: Sandringham Parking – 22 minute drive from resort
distance: 6.9km
duration: 1.5-2hrs
Overall, this route is easy to complete and can be done by all ages and abilities. Open all year round this trail is popular for walking and mountain biking and you can explore the estate of Sandringham. Along the trail you will also come across a little cave that links to the ancient past of the area. It’s a great walking route that can easily be done in half a day.
Roydon Common Circular Walk
start: NWT Roydon Common – 16 minute drive from resort
distance: 9.7km
duration: 2-2.5hrs
Enjoy a circular walk around Roydon Common which is a nature reserve in King’s Lynn. This loop will take you around most of the nature reserve and whilst walking round make sure you keep an eye out for the different wildlife there. There are so many different species of dragonfly, butterfly, moths, birds and owls throughout the year.
10km+ walks
Norfolk’s Mountain Walk from Felbrigg Estate
start: Felbrigg Hall Car Park – 1 hour drive from resort
distance: 25.6km
duration: 6hrs
This is a circular walk that takes you through parkland, countryside and along the coast and it starts and finishes at Felbrigg Hall. There are various terrains and paths that you will be going on with a few steel slopes. Although with being just over 25km long the trail is one that you will enjoy if you are wanting a full day to walk as you can enjoy views across Norfolk.
Snettisham Scalp Circular Walk
start: Ken Hill South Beach Car Park – 32 minute drive from resort
distance: 15.6km
duration: 3-3.5hrs
Enjoy exploring the Norfolk coast with the Snettisham Scalp Circular Walk. Within this route you will go along the beach and loop back around near the RDPB Snettisham where you can keep an eye out for the wildlife. You may see birds like the shelduck, pink-footed goose and avocet. Before you complete this walk you will want to check the tide times for the beach section of the walk.
