Make the most of the local area during your stay at Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat by incorporating some of the walks listed below to your holiday.

There is so much to see and do in and around Dorset that it can be hard researching and figuring out what you want to add into your plans. If you are wanting to do a walk during your staycation, then this blog is for you. We’ve done all the research for you and put together this handy blog full of a range of different walks to suit all. Have a read and see which ones take your fancy the most.

Durdle Door - walks near Wareham Forest

1-5km walks

Durdle Door

start: Lulworth Cove Car Park – 27 min drive from resort

distance: 4.2km

duration: 1-1.5hrs

The Durdle Door walk is an out & back style route that takes you from Lulworth Cove along the coastal path until you get to the incredible Durdle Door. The walk is steep at times but doable for all abilities and worth it for the views you get along the way. Durdle Door is one of the most photographed landmarks in Dorset and one you can’t miss whilst you are in the area.

Wareham Walls and Rivers

start: Streche Road Car Park – 10 minute drive from resort

distance: 3.9km

duration: 30mins-1hr

This walk starts just 10 minutes away from the resort and overall is an easy circular trail taking no longer than an hour to complete. During this walk you will make your way along the walls that surround Wareham town as well as parts that take you along the River Piddle. It’s a great addition if you are wanting to explore the town during your stay.

Norden Farm – Corfe Castle

start: Corfe Castle Car Park 16 minute drive from resort

distance: 5km

duration: 1-1.5hrs

This 5km circular walk is a great choice if you are wanting to take in some history during your stay especially if you are wanting to visit Corfe Castle. The route starts at Norden Farm Camping, but it can be started at the car park as you can include exploring the castle which was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century as you complete the circular walk.

Blue Pool Circular

start: Blue Pool Car Park – 15 minute drive from resort

distance: 3.1km

duration: 45mins-1hr

The Blue Pool Circular walk is overall an easy walk to complete and a great addition if you aren’t wanting anything too long. Along the trail you will make your way around the Blue Pool and the impressive views of the nature reserve. There is also a tea room in the area if you are wanting a drink or bite to eat whilst you’re there.

Swyre Head - walks near Wareham Forest

6-10km walks

Hartland Moor Circular

start: Arne, Wareham, BH20 5DU 16 minute drive from resort

distance: 8km

duration: 1.5-2hrs

This circular trail takes you through Harland Moor where you can explore the stunning scenery and views of the surrounding areas. Overall the route is flat and easy to follow and you will be using various paths and lanes which keeps it interesting. It’s perfect for those wanting a walk that is great for a morning or afternoon.

Egmont Point and Swyre Head via Kingston

start: 28 West St, Kingston, Wareham, BH20 5LL – 22 minute drive from resort

distance: 9.5km

duration: 2.5-3hrs

Starting and ending in Kingston, this 9.5km circular walk takes you through the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as you make your way down to Swyre Head. From there you will stick to the coast path until you get to Egmont Point. Some of the paths go along woodland and coastal terrain so it is a great mix of the Dorset countryside.

Organford and Wareham Forest Circular

start: at the resort!

distance: 9km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

Starting at the resort this circular trail will take you along a forest trail which is perfect for whilst you are staying with us for you to explore the forest behind the retreat. The route starts on Gore Fields Lane which you can walk to from the resort before making your way around the forest. It’s a great 9km route that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Upton Canyon

start: Upton Country Park Car Park 10 minute drive from resort

distance: 9.2km

duration: 2-2.5hrs

The Upton Canyon circular walk is a slightly more challenging walk that starts in Upton Country Park. Parts of the walk follow a former railway lane and other parts take you near Upton Heath Nature Reserve. The route won’t take you any longer than 2 and a half hours to complete and its great if you are wanting a walk not too far away from the resort.

Wareham to Swanage - walks near Wareham Forest

10km+ walks

Wareham to Swanage

start: 37 South St Parking 11 minute drive from resort

distance: 19.6km

duration: 4.5-5hrs

The Wareham to Swanage walk is a point-to-point style walk that is 19.6km in length and will take between 4 and a half to 5 hours to complete. Taking you from Wareham town centre you will make your way down, past Corfe Castle and heading straight to the coast where you will end up in Swanage. You will be able to enjoy some of the best views during this route.

Rempstone and Randall’s Plantation

start: Wareham, BH20 5JH – 20 minute drive from resort

distance: 12.1km

duration: 2.5-3hrs

This 12.1km circular trail takes you around Rempstone and Randall’s Plantation. It’s a great route for exploring some of the countryside in Dorset with both views of the woodland and parts of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Due to this being a relatively flat walk it is suitable for all ages and abilities.
