our sustainability message

here at Darwin Escapes we are trying to create a positive change to make staycations more sustainable.

As you can probably tell from our resorts across the UK, we love the beautiful countryside, fresh sea air and the breathtaking cities that the UK has to offer. As a company we are always looking at our carbon footprint and ways we can ethically and realistically increase our sustainability. This is why we have made some changes across our resorts, some of these changes you may have already noticed if you have stayed with us before.

the retirement of the Darwin Duck

Although they have been part of the Darwin Escapes family for a long time and we are just as sad as you to see them go, there are several factors that have gone into making this decision.

Across all resorts we were ordering around 100,000 plastic ducks per year which has a significant environmental impact. From looking at ways to reduce the use of single-use plastic across the resorts the ducks were one of the main things we have had to remove.

removal of single-use plastic and other non-biodegradable materials

As well as the ducks it has also been decided that the suitcases and toiletries have been removed due to the impact on the environment and looking for ways to be more sustainable as a company. Removal of the toiletries will mean that there will no longer be any single-use plastic in our bathrooms so it will be a huge benefit and further improve our environment and carbon footprint.

Although these changes are already taken place, if you are lucky enough to find a Darwin Duck in your accommodation or receive a suitcase on arrival, you’ll want to make sure you keep hold of them as they will soon be a thing of the past.

what else are we doing across our resorts?

The decision to remove these items meant that we could make room for more positive change across our resorts. From re-landscaping each resort with extra plants and trees to increase the local wildlife to encourage our guests to recycle more with our designated waste areas. We have even started to add electric car chargers to each lodge at our newest resorts for the convenience of charging up your vehicle whilst you also recharge with us.
