This is of course in addition to the Award Winning selection of ice creams on sale at the farm which have been the backbone of their operations for the past 30 years!

The recent renovation has only added to an offering which was already well worth a trip for our North Wales holiday makers on account of its Award Winning selection of Ice Creams and Sorbets which are a must try for anyone staying in the area.

There are now over 50 different flavours to choose from when you visit the farm which have been perfected over the past 30 years. Even today, the milk used as a base for these products is still sourced from a neighbouring farm and manufactured at a production facility on site.

You will find an ice cream flavour for all tastes including traditional offerings alongside slightly more extravagant selections such as their must try white chocolate, raspberry and Oreos ice cream. There are also a variety of different toppings and cones to choose from to help ensure that you won’t be disappointed.

The Ice Cream Farm is the perfect place to visit regardless of the weather for families thanks to the recent addition of Europe’s largest indoor sand and water play area has been named Honeycomb Canyon. This air conditioned facility is filled with, mills, water pools, playhouses and sand pits to help create an area which is sure to appeal to a wide variety of age groups. We do recommend bringing a towel and spare clothing here though given the water based nature of many of the play areas in this facility.

We took our Goddaughter to the farm with us and she absolutely loved this particular attraction, spending literally hours here simply playing in the sand and water, as well as exploring the activities which were on offer. The staff on hand were amazingly attentive and friendly and fully adept at dealing with children of all ages. Special thanks to the helpful Sian who gave us the full guided tour of the facilities and knew exactly how to deal with children of all ages. She was a credit to the team and perfectly exemplified the exceptional offering you will receive when you pay a visit to the Ice Cream Farm.

Aimed at slightly younger age brackets is Crazy Daisy’s Fun Factory which is an alternative air conditioned ice cream themed play barn featuring a ball pit, hanging ice cream cone navigation course and much more. For the older age groups, there is The Loft which is a fantastic places for teenagers to hangout and socialise. Here you will find retro gaming machines such as Sega Rally, Pool tables, air hockey tables and even musical equipment such as a drum kit!

During the warmer months or when the weather is more accommodating, the whole family can enjoy a game of Strawberry Falls Adventure Golf where you find excitement around every corner!

If you enjoyed the Sega Rally arcade experience in The Loft and want to get on the race track for real then head to Silvercone! Here you will find battery powered quad bikes on a race track which is as long as 2,500 ice cream cones lined up. These coin operated contraptions cost just £1 per lap and are ideal for children aged four and above.

Alternatively you may want to try out The Scoop which has been created in partnership with JCB. This provides children over the age of four with the chance to get behind the controls of a real miniature JCB construction digger and is without question one of the Ice Cream Farms most popular attractions based on the size of the queue here during our visit!

If you are looking to make a day of it and try out all of the facilities on site, then you will have the option of purchasing one of the Play Passes which are now available at The Cheshire Ice Cream Farm. Available from as little as £15, you can cut down the price of activities to as little as £1.00 per go when you purchase one of their most extensive VIP passes.

Now is a great time of year to visit the Ice Cream Farm if you happen to visit the area thanks to the indoor sections and also due to the fact that Santa is coming to town! The jolly gent and his helpful elves will be visiting the Cheshire Ice Cream Farm on selected days on the run up to the Christmas season and have been given their own Grotto in the parlour area.

The cost of meeting Santa is just £7 per person and includes a free gift which are well worth the money! Please be sure to contact the farm before visiting to reserve your time slot given the popularity of the grotto and Santa’s limited availability on account of his very busy schedule.

In order to make your reservation or enquire about one of the Play Passes which are available, contact a friendly member of the Ice Cream Farm team on 0800 133 700 or fire them an email on info@theicecreamfarm.co.uk. We can’t recommend this ever expanding attraction enough to anyone staying at any of our North Wales holiday destinations.

A Fantastic Way to See the Local Area & Great Fun for All the Family

Treasure Trail booklets provide a fun way to explore areas across the UK with self-guided tours which take on a different theme and character depending on the location. Booklets are available for areas all around Cumbria, with Penrith’s trail taking the guise of a Spy Mission! Taking approximately an hour and a half to complete, the trail covers a circular route of 2 miles and is suitable for adults and children aged over 6 – there is even a free text service to receive clues if you get a bit stuck…

what is a treasure trail exactly?

Treasure Trails booklets can be purchased from treasuretrails.co.uk and provide a great way to learn about the local area, with booklets available for dozens of locations all around the UK. They provide an ideal way to explore either the areas nearby to where you live or places that you are visiting on holiday. You can start and finish your adventure whenever you like too – although waiting for daylight is recommended. You can order a printed book, or download an electronic version and print it off yourself…then go out and do some good old-fashioned exploring!

explore as you enjoy themed adventures

Take on the character of a spy, a detective or a treasure-hunter and create your own story as you follow the trail and solve a series of clues whilst taking in the best of the local sights and scenery. Great fun for children and adults.

explore on foot, get on your bike or in your car

Most of the trails – including Penrith’s,  are designed to be explored with a leisurely walk. However, there are also a number of trails that cover larger areas and are designed to be undertaken on a bike or in a car. The bike and car trails consist of a number of stops, where you get off your bike or out of your car to read the next clue. The driving trails consist of both walking and driving, with around 2 miles of walking at each stop; creating a longer day of exploring which will usually take 4 to 5 hours to complete. The cycling trails are plotted along established cycle paths and again consist of stop-offs where you will explore on foot.

see penrith from a different perspective

If you think you’ll enjoy this creative and quirky way to explore Penrith then download your map and clues from the TreasureTrails website. There are a huge number of trails available, including dog friendly adventures!

You can purchase your copy of the Penrith Spy Mission Treasure Trail from the website here. The booklet costs £6.99 at the time of writing.

Book your stay at Thanet Well Lodge Retreat and look forward to exploring the stunning local area.

Rob from Chapters & Adventures has recently returned from a relaxing babymoon at Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat, read his reasons why you should book yours with us below…

why Wareham?

4 Reasons Why Wareham Forest is Perfect for Your Babymoon. Words and Photos by Rob Haggan

More than half of the entire county of Dorset is classed as an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and three quarters of Dorset’s coastline is categorised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With credentials like that it’s no surprise that it’s a beautiful location that draws in around 18 million visitors a year. When it comes to choosing a destination for your babymoon, you’d struggle to find a county more suited, with its variety of bustling seaside towns, quaint rural villages, rugged coastline and stunning beaches, there really is something for everyone.
Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat is located in the heart of Dorset within easy driving distance of its popular towns, villages and beaches.

Here are our four reasons why Wareham Forest makes the perfect place to book your babymoon.

1. the beautiful forest location

After weeks, or even months, of morning sickness and exhaustion, your babymoon should be all about relaxing, recharging and spending some time with your partner before your lives turn upside down with your new arrival.

When it comes to relaxation, Wareham Forest is the perfect spot. We all know that getting outside and being active is good for us, but did you know that spending just 40 minutes in a forest has measurable benefits for your wellbeing?

In Japan, there is a popular therapy known as ‘shinrin-yoku’ (forest bathing) and researchers have found that spending just 40 minutes in a forest can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, lower blood sugar, improve immunity and increase vitality.

What better way to look after yourself and your bump than sitting on your lodge’s decking area, or taking one of the many local walks, soaking up the forest surroundings.

2. there’s so much to do

The ideal babymoon is a happy mixture of adventures and afternoon naps. There may be days when you want to get out and explore, or there may be days when you just want to sleep in and enjoy a lazy breakfast in your lodge.
For the days when you are feeling fit and ready to explore, there are opportunities for adventure in every direction.
If it’s a walk in the fresh coastal air that you fancy then take the cliff top walk out to Old Harry Rocks and check out the iconic chalk cliffs. Or, for a more relaxing stroll, head to The Blue Pool, just a few minutes’ drive from Wareham. This pool varies in colour from bright blues to emerald greens and is surrounded by 25 acres of woodland for you to wander through and enjoy the views.
If all of that walking has worked up an appetite, then head to Corfe Castle and enjoy a cream tea in the gardens overlooking the castle, on a sunny day it’s probably one of the best spots in Dorset to sit and enjoy a coffee.
If retail therapy is more your thing then head to nearby Poole to enjoy a morning shopping before grabbing a harbour-side lunch and watching the yachts go by.

3. the family that retreats together, eats together

With an ever growing list of baby related things that you need to buy over the course of the next few months you may be conscious of trying to stick to a budget when on your babymoon. At Wareham Forest our lodges have fully equipped kitchens, meaning that you can sit with your feet up while your partner does his best Jamie Oliver impression and cooks you up a feast, and you don’t need to go out and over-spend on meals each evening.

Just think of all of those cute little outfits you can buy with the money you’ve saved from eating in.

4. life’s a beach

Many pregnancy books and websites note that Vitamin D is particularly important during pregnancy and the best source of Vitamin D is sunlight. Vitamin D is produced in the body when skin is exposed to sunlight and it helps to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy.
If that’s not a fantastic excuse to slap on some sun cream and head to the beach for the day then I don’t know what is.

Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast has an abundance of incredible beaches and coves to explore and whether it’s the golden beach at Sandbanks, or the picturesque Lulworth Cove, you will definitely find the perfect spot to sit and soak up the sun.

Durdle Door is a ‘must-do’ for anyone that visits. The famous limestone arch is one of the most photographed stretches of coast in the UK and is a firm favourite for many of the amazing photographers you see on Instagram. Remember to use #darwinescapes when sharing your beautiful beach photos.

Just a few days away will recharge, refresh and reenergise you for the next stage of your pregnancy, and whether you’re looking to explore or just relax, Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat is the perfect starting point.

Huge thank you to Rob from Chapters & Adventures for writing this wonderful post about the perfect babymoon at our brand new, luxurious Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat. Book your retreat now and enjoy a relaxing escape in Dorset!

Enjoy your babymoon at Wareham Forest Lodge Retreat!
