There is plenty to keep you busy during your time on the resort from the golf course, Tranquility Spa Lodge, The Glasshouse restaurant, and The Box gym. But it’s handy to know about things in the local area like the closest shops for essentials, places to eat if you want to leave the resort and things to do. what to do before checking in?

Check in is from 4pm at Kilnwick Percy but that doesn’t mean your holiday starts then. Start the day by heading into York first. The resort is just over half an hour away from York city centre so before you head to the resort, spend the day exploring the historic city. Learn about the iconic York Minster, wonder along The Shambles, take in some history at the York Dungeons or just enjoy a spot of shopping. There is so much to see and do to keep you busy for the day in York.

Although there is plenty to do at Kilnwick Percy it’s also handy to know about a few things that are in the local area. Below you will find a range of things in the local area that make great days out and are all within a half an hour drive from the resort.

1. Burnby Hall Gardens

The Burnby Hall Gardens is a unique garden in Pocklington and has been called ‘a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown’. There is so much to see and do whilst you are there from the gardens, the museum, the wildlife, the café and gift shop and the amazing events programme. In the gardens you will find the Upper and Lower Lakes that are home to over 100 types of Hardy Waterlily that flower between mid-June till the end of August.

2. Yorkshire Wolds Railway

20 min drive from resort

Enjoy this heritage railway located right in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. There is a visitor centre set inside a genuine British Rail MK1 Full Brake coach with various historic things to see and read about like photographs of how the railway used to be. As well as the Sit Tatton Sykes which gives cab rides along a 1000ft demonstration line. It’s a great experience that is unique and gives you a lot of information about the historic past of this railway.

3. Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial

22 min drive from resort

Known for being one of the largest independent museums of aviation in the UK, the Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial sits on the former site of RAF Elvington. This site was used during World War II extensively by Allied bomber crews. Today it is a museum and memorial that you can visit and explore the T2 Hangar, control tower, memorial garden, air gunners and more. There is also a café on site where you can enjoy a bite to eat during your visit.

4. William’s Den

25 min drive from resort

If you are looking for a fun family day out William’s Den is the perfect place for you. Enjoy making memories together whilst you are surrounded by amazing views of the Yorkshire Wolds. There are various adventure play areas from outdoor, indoor and woodland which are perfect for children of all ages. Along with events on throughout the year from summer adventures, Halloween nights and Christmas experiences. And you can enjoy a meal here too as there is a pizzeria, ice cream parlour, coffee shop and snack box.

5. Piglets Adventure Farm

30 min drive from resort

If you are wanting a day out that keeps the kids entertained, then Piglets Adventure Farm is a great choice. With plenty to see and do you can easily spend the whole day exploring this farm. From meeting pigs and goats to having a game of mini golf or even taking a ride on the go-karts. Some of the other animals that can be seen on the farm are rabbits, alpacas, chicks and more. As well as the farm there is also a beach where you can hire a beach hut, enjoy the interactive water features and go down the cliffside slide!

Since the lodges at Kilnwick Percy are self-catering you will probably find yourselves needing to head to a shop for any ingredients or snacks during your holiday. So, it is handy to know about the closest ones before you are there.

All the lodges at Kilnwick Percy are self-catering so you will probably be enjoying cooking your own meals most of the time or eating at The Glasshouse restaurant. But when you do want to eat out off resort it’s handy to know about any nearby restaurants.

Located in the heart of Pocklington, Stamfords Bar & Grill is a great place to go if you are wanting to enjoy some delicious cuts of meat. They serve the best of Yorkshire produce and ingredients to create all their dishes. Whether you are after a steak, Sunday lunch or a place with a nice, relaxing atmosphere then Stamfords is the place to go.

2. Pane E Vino

Pane E Vino is a family run Italian restaurant in Pocklington serving delicious traditional Italian and Sardinian food. They offer both eating in, taking away and collection so you can even enjoy some of these dishes in the comfort of your holiday lodge. The menu has various dishes from homemade stone-baked pizzas to traditional pasta dishes and various chicken, steak, pork and fish dishes.

The Bengal Lounge in Pocklington is an Indian restaurant and takeaway offering a range of delicious Indian dishes. From classics like butter chicken, tikka masala, balti, korma and more, there is something for everyone amongst this list. And as they offer takeaway options and with it only being 5 minutes away from the resort this is another one that you could enjoy in your lodge if you didn’t fancy eating out but didn’t want to cook.

4. Yuzu Street Food Pocklington

Yuzu Street Food was created by owners Emily and Chris after they were inspired by a trip to Asia. They bring Asian flavours to the streets of the UK with their incredible menu. Using the best quality local ingredients, they create dishes that look amazing and taste just as amazing as they look. The menu offers everything from bao buns to katsu curry and even extras like edamame.

5. JJs Bar & Kitchen

10 min drive from resort

If you are after great food and a great atmosphere then JJs Bar & Kitchen is the place to go. They have a huge range of delicious choices on their menu from cheesy garlic bread to jacket potatoes, wraps and burgers to summer salads and everything in between. And with it being only 10 minutes away from the resort its not far to go to enjoy a place that everyone will find something they want to eat at.
