some of our favourite places to visit in the Peak District
Alton Towers
The world-famous Alton Towers has been open for 40 years (we can’t believe it either!) and it is still a hugely popular theme park to this day. Ride the most thrilling rides, spend the day giggling with friends, get your heart rate pumping and your adrenaline flowing with the endless roller coasters just waiting for you to strap in! Are you brave enough to try the Alton Towers Dungeons? Those in the market for a fright will learn more about the mysterious masked man, on their trip through the eerie experience. In much less scary adventures the little ones can flock to CBeebies Land, where their favourite TV friends are on-hand to say hello and jump on a ride!
Pooles Cavern & Buxton Country Park
Journey underground, with a friendly and professional guide, where you’ll explore the stunning limestone caverns! Marvel at the crystal stalactites which have been formed over millions of years, and learn more about the history of the caverns and this region on your underground tour. The country park is home to a range of woodland trails just waiting for you to explore them and make the most of the relaxing atmosphere of natural beauty.
Peak Wildlife Park
Visit this fantastic wildlife park with its truly unique walkthroughs, where you can wander with the lemurs, dance along with the penguins and meet up with the wallabies. Here you can get up close and personal (and feed!) the animals with the friendly keeper Walks And Talks. An absolutely fascinating and fun day out for the whole family!
Lyme House & Estate
Spend a day exploring the 1400-acre estate of this stunning Regency era house. Enjoy a peaceful escape to the estate and stroll through the Rose Garden or Ravine Garden. Take some time out by the reflecting lake, which was the home for the scene that set a million hearts pumping from the BBC’s Pride & Prejudice – where the dashing Mr. Darcy meets the young Miss Bennet!
The Peak District truly is an outdoor playground for all ages!
You can enjoy everything from walking and cycling to horse riding and quadbiking! The famous Tissington Trail is only 100 metres away from Rivendale, and there are footpaths reaching all the way to Eaton, Alsop Dales and Dovedale. Enjoy the truly spectacular scenery of this incredible, world-famous region, when you stay with us at Rivendale Lodge Retreat.
